From Intern to Full-Time: Tommy’s First Overseas Trip
At datumpin, we take pride in nurturing the next generation of tech talent and providing meaningful opportunities that bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application. One of the most rewarding parts of this commitment is seeing early careers develop into long-term roles within the business.
Tommy joined datumpin as a summer intern, where he quickly demonstrated curiosity, technical ability and a strong willingness to learn. Following the success of his internship, Tommy has since transitioned into a full-time role, becoming a valued member of the datumpin team.
Recently, Tommy reached an important milestone in his datumpin journey by completing his first overseas trip, travelling to the United States to support live projects and meet customers first-hand. The visit provided an opportunity to deepen his understanding of datumpin’s technology and its role in supporting critical infrastructure.
During the trip, Tommy gained an overview of the Rollup Regeneration project with our partner Phibro Tech, learning how trucks, plant equipment and remote operational technology systems communicate to deliver cyber secure, resilient , data-driven operations. He developed a deeper understanding of the processes involved in water treatment, including why Hexavalent Chromium (Chromium 6) must be removed from water supplies in California and the methods used to achieve this in line with environmental regulations.
A key part of Tommy’s work involved commissioning remote data communication to logistics planning database used by Phibro Tech to manage their tanker truck fleet. By receiving edge processed data directly from water treatment sitesPhibro Tech can determine when service visits need to take place, helping to ensure efficiency, compliance and continuity of service.
While in the U.S., Tommy met American customers gaining valuable insight into their operational requirements and priorities across California. He travelled to multiple sites, allowing him to see first-hand how datumpin’s solutions help organisations monitor, manage and maintain their infrastructure in real-world conditions.
The overseas visit marked a significant step in Tommy’s professional development, moving from theoretical understanding to practical, on-site experience. It also reflects datumpin’s commitment to investing in people, providing opportunities for learning, progression and international collaboration.
Tommy’s journey from intern to full-time employee highlights the success of datumpin’s approach to early-career development. As he continues to grow within the business, we look forward to seeing his ongoing contribution to projects both in the UK and internationally.
datumpin remains committed to supporting emerging talent and creating pathways that allow individuals to develop their skills while delivering meaningful, real-world impact. Our intern program will open for applicants again shortly for Summer 2026 placements.
